Eat Like the Earth Depends on it!

In 2018, UMass Dining's Sustainability team created a yearly event with the purpose of bringing attention to the rapidly increasing issue of global climate change. Specifically, this event was created to highlight the different food growing, preparation, and eating practices that act a means to reduce and even combat carbon emissions. This event takes inspiration from PROJECT DRAWDOWN and has taken many forms, but it has always had the throughlines of incorporating the themes below into a menu and inviting new perspectives into the conversation.

2020

This year we are tackling the Diet for a Cooler Planet event in two themed events and from two new perspectives!

By Sea
In partnership with Our Wicked Fish, UMass Dining is participating in a virtual gathering including a range of voices in the Massachusetts seafood industry.
By Land
In partnership with I-Collective, an autonomous group of Indigenous chefs, activists, herbalists, seed, and knowledge keepers, stay tuned for a Panel Discussion with members of I-Collective providing their knowledge and perspectives on how Indigenous food-ways can lead to a healthier planet. A menu boasting collaborative recipes will be featured in the new Worcester Dining Commons. Details coming later in November!
