About Our Project (2022-Present)

The I-Collective is an autonomous group of Indigenous chefs, herbalists, activists, seed, and knowledge keepers. UMass Dining and the I-Collective are working together to develop a digital cookbook that celebrates and honors Indigenous cuisines. This collaboration has featured four special events on the UMass campus. Two virtual panel discussions were held that featured special menus at Worcester Dining Commons. Two in-person guest chef events were held that featured I-Collective members and chefs, Neftali Duran and Freddie Bitsoie. Both chefs shared their recipes, knowledge and perspectives on how Indigenous food-ways can lead to a healthier planet.
